Stress is the most common issue clients come to see me for these days. If you think about it, how many people do you have in your circle of friends that aren’t over stressed? We’re exposed to sooo much more than ever before. What I find interesting is the infinite number of ways stress can manifest in our lives and bodies. I really believe it’s the number one cause of disease and dysfunction today. I notice it so clearly in myself and my kids and also the people I work with. There are a few symptoms that I see over and over again in my clients.
There’s many more but these seem to be the most prevalent at the moment.
What would I suggest? Self Care!!! But! we say (and I’m guilty of this) “I don’t have time!” “I’m too tired” “I’ll take a break next week”
My own experience has shown me how important it is. I’m a busy person. I’m a single parent I run my own business and I study. But I'm also one of these people who finds it a challenge to put myself first. When I listen to my body, I give myself down time. When I don't, I get stronger and stronger messages, and if I still refuse to listen, the universe kicks my butt. I get sick. I get so sick that I have no choice but to be still and re-evaluate my priorities. In the past 8 years I've had ovarian cancer, serious liver issues, pancreatitis twice! Been seriously attacked by a raccoon ( yes it's true) and broken my foot. You may be thinking “wow, she's one unlucky woman” but I'm not! I'm extremely blessed and my life is amazing! Each of of those situations has occurred when I've been pushing myself too hard with not enough balance in my life.
So...how do I create balance in my own life?
Well, I'm a Craniosacral Therapist among other things and am passionate about my work so I think getting a session is an amazing way to reduce stress and deal with many of the symptoms it causes. It’s my number one choice, however there’s many other things we can do too before our symptoms are out of hand.
Take time to meditate, exercise, disconnect for x amount of time each day. Don’t sleep with our phones next to our bed, practice gratitude, be mindful of our breathe, and, helping others are some of my favourites.
My goal in working with people is not only to assist them in eliminating pain and dysfunction but also to guide them to a place where their self care is a priority so they can live a healthy, balanced, pain free life. ❤️
